So if anyone feels that they are deserving of an honour of this magnitude, they should address themselves to me. Oh, Munguin just reminded me that breakfast tomorrow should be at 9 sharp and the toast should be golden, the egg cooked for 4 minutes exactly and the coffee percolated to perfection. Jeez, he really does have you under the cosh.
And he still wants you to have his breakfast done to perfection in a few hours? To my mind that really is service above and beyond the call of duty so I have n o hesitation in proposing Tris as the well-deserved first investiture to the Most Splendid Order of TRIS.

Something about an international agreement on the time system. Like Liked by 1 person. Quit moaning! Like Liked by 2 people. Dave, Tris……That got me thinking about American time zones, and how they extend into American territory in the western Pacific.
So how far west are we talking about? Adding to the complication is the way the International Date Line moves around relative to the th meridian, so as not to bisect important land masses. Depends on how you look at it……. Croix, U. Virgin Islands is named after Stewart Udall……. Which brings us to the time zones west of California that apply to American states and territories in the Pacific. Although on a map, it appears that most of Alaska almost one-fifth of the land mass of the entire United states is roughly the same distance west of California as Hawaii, Alaska time is not the same as Hawaii Time.
Hawaiian time also includes a few islands in the far west of the Alaskan Aleutian chain where they meet Russian territory. And there are more time zones that cover American territory west of Hawaii….. LOL Tris……. I enjoyed that, having just studied the screwy way the time zones are drawn in the Pacific, and how far in some areas, the International Date Line departs from the th Meridian.
But where IS the th Meridian exactly? Is it the line at the Royal Observatory which tourists stand on and photograph? Or is it meters out in the park, where the American GPS satellite system says it is?
Honolulu, Hawaii — A couple of hours driving time by major routes at least. Sandwiched between and around Mount Juneau and the Gastineau Channel, Juneau holds the distinction of being the only US state capital that is inaccessible by road from the rest of the state. If you want to go to Juneau, your choices are air or ferry.
And air is not really a good option, since it rains or snows about days a year in Juneau. Juneau has a population of about 30, people, but a land area larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined.
There was a time in the not-too-distant past when there were five time zones across Alaska, and Juneau was at least two time zones from most of the rest of the state. Now, time zone UTC-9 takes a big loop eastward to compass almost all of Alaska including Juneau, except for a tiny bit of the far western Aleutians which are on Hawaiian time. Lots of people hate that Juneau is so isolated from the rest of its state, and there have been proposals to move the state capital to another location, even going back to when the capital was moved to Juneau from Sitka in , during the Alaskan gold rush days.
This had caused confusion since other sources named Juneau as the capital. Today, I am unable to find on the internet any such alternate capital city or where it might have been located or proposed. If you like a pleasant climate and easy travel from one place to another, then perhaps not.
Juneau: I have no idea where all that city land area is. There was talk a few years back of building a suitable state Capitol building for Alaska, to replace the small downtown Juneau office building with parking on the street that serves the purpose now. BTW, do you remember that jigsaw puzzle and the Alaska state capital confusion? It was many years ago. Ha ha, it looks pretty compact to me, but my goodness, the relatively small capital building dominates the city.
I can never quite get over the idea that someone like Sarah Palin could make it to the top in Alaskan Politics. Speaking of Sarah Palin, who has long ago disappeared back into the vastness of Alaska, a couple of articles were published in The Guardian and the New York Times at the time in when she burst forth in Iowa to campaign for Trump.
Apparently, according to the Alaskan reporter in The Guardian, she was once liked in Alaska, where not not really knowing anything and not being able to say anything sensible is apparently not a severe political disadvantage. Fame in big time politics in was her initial downfall, and her political speech for Trump in Iowa was so bizarre that people wondered if she was drunk….
The New York Times dissects it mercilessly. Actually her home is in Wasilla 7, people , where she served as Mayor before running for Governor of Alaska. To get from Wasilla to Juneau appears to be a hair raising mile road trip around the Gulf of Alaska.
It looks like it involves some ferry crossings, even before you have to get you car on the ferry for the water route to Juneau. And along the way, you have to cross the Canadian border twice. So while she was Governor, Sarah lived in Juneau during the legislative session. I think she had an office in Anchorage too. Lord… They really need to make their capital city a bit more accessible to the rest of the state. It would save a lot of trouble if, say on your way to work you forgot to put your passport in your pocket!
An egg cooked for 4 minutes? Why John Major ever had an affair with her is beyond me. Like Liked by 3 people. I once came across a clip of a radio phone-in programme broadcast here in Scotland — I cannot remember which station, as this was some years ago — in which the fragrant Edwina was the guest in the studio, and came out with the usual tired, obnoxious, politically, economically and morally bankrupt old Tory tropes.
So, some guy calls in and says that Edwina really should come on the radio in Scotland more often. Edwina preens and thanks him profusely. To which the guy says words to the effect that she should do so to remind people in Scotland why they should never vote Tory, and support independence.
I was once drinking in a pub in Edinburgh Universityland — oh alright, on one of the many occasions when I used to spend my time drinking in pubs — in which there was a large group of people, students but posh students, including one young woman who looked like a younger version of the ineffable Edwina.
I remain convinced that that young woman was a daughter of Edwina. I myself am entirely the opposite of that, of course, being obnoxious and opinionated, but softly spoken. Have to agree about the egg, 4 minutes to get a lovely dip for the toast.
Never worked out if the four minutes was to be from cold water or from the boil, I put mine in cold and use 6 minutes, comment! Rest put in the bin or passed onto the servants. Reminds me of the story told by a servant in the big hoose, had to produce the breakfasts, the whole works every morning including kippers. Never one to waste he asked for it to be prepared for his lunch, said kipper was retrieved and duly served. Keep well. Like Liked by 4 people. On the subject of cooking eggs: I occasionally make myself a meal of pasta with some sauce or other.
Cut into wedges or slices as desired, add to the pasta in the rice cooker, add seasoning and sauce, stir to heat through, and decant into a large breakfast bowl. The hard-boiled eggs are nice that way, with no nasty black rings, and fresh-tasting. Here was me thinking that only the bottom was in water normally.
Just read this blog, looking like we are all in trouble as this government will be for keeping the system we have, phantom money creation. When we were young, my dad used a bantam hen to hatch duck eggs, the hen used to run back and to along the edge of pond panicking when all her chicks instinctively ran into the water, poor thing, We also had a drake that survived a fox attack, but was never quite right in the head afterwards, he used to be quite happy swimming backwards, then used to get out the water and waddle like mad to catch up with the other ducks, My dad had this philosophy that if the drake was meant to die then it would have done so the night the fox had it, so he would not kill it for the pot, Mind tris we spoke recently about being crazy, well I lovingly blame my parents, they did every day crazy in their extraordinary ordinary life,s, They should have wrote a book, my dad and brothers accidentally got caught in a car rally in Wales, when they used to work for the forestry, they left work to head down the hill driving an old ex-police Black Maria Van.
They came to a junction in the forestry road, and turned left down the hill, only to find a rally car coming up fast behind them, no room on narrow forestry roads for overtaking and a steep drop on one side, so they speeded up, bouncing along on bumpy roads, the Black Maria van, dad and brothers and one rally car caught up with a second rally car, my dad and brother were helpless with laughter trying to tell us the details, especially the bit when they tried describing the spectators faces, Luckily they had joined in the stragglers near the end of the rally.
Yep, my family all do crazy, in the most delightful unintended way. I nominate Jeane Freeman I believe she is a trusty reliable indispensable servant to the people of Scotland.
We both keep a close eye on politics, and would love to be around when Scotland and Wales become independent, However it is important to remember to laugh and smile, antidotes against insane governments is a must. We hope you do not mind to much when we share our smiles in amongst the politics here on your site.
They are all certainly behaving in a manner contrary to their advice, and this is happening worldwide, even Trudue was caught doing the same, What is going on?

Well, would you look at that...
